Vinyl Record Collection App: Catalog Your LPs by Shelf and Crate

Published · 2 min read

A vinyl record collection app should answer two questions fast: do I already own this LP, and where is it filed? Hoardo answers both for free. Each shelf section and crate becomes a numbered box, each record goes in as an item, and one search shows which shelf holds Blue Train, so you stop buying the same pressing twice at the record fair.

File the collection the way it sits

Don't rebuild your shelves around an app. Set Hoardo up to match them:

  1. One box per shelf section. "Jazz, A to M" and "Jazz, N to Z" if that's how you file.
  2. One box per crate. 7-inch singles, the new arrivals crate, the box from your dad you haven't sorted yet.
  3. A box for records to sell. More on that below.

Give each a number and a place note ("Living room, left Kallax"), and set the fullness so you know where the next purchase can go.

One shelf section as a box: each LP with what it's worth to you.

Add records without typing every title

  • Photo. Take a picture of a few spines or covers and Hoardo lists what it sees.
  • Speech. Read the titles out as you flip through a crate.
  • Typing. Quickest for the one LP you just brought home.

Add a price if you want to keep track of what the collection is worth or what you paid.

Search before you buy

At a record fair, search "Coltrane" and you see every Coltrane LP you own, with the shelf it's on. The same search helps at home when a friend asks to borrow something.

Sell spares on a public page

Put the doubles and the records you've outgrown on a selling list. Hoardo gives the list its own public page with each record and its price, so you can share one link instead of photographing every sleeve again. The page never shows where anything is stored.

The selling page buyers see: the LPs and their prices, never which shelf they came from.

Label crates and shelves

Print a QR label for each crate and shelf section. Point a phone camera at it and see what should be inside, which is handy for the crates in the loft.

What Hoardo isn't

Hoardo isn't a marketplace or a price guide, and it doesn't look up pressings or matrix numbers for you. It's a fast, searchable catalogue of what you own and where it is.

Free for the whole collection

Hoardo is free for all your boxes and items, so a collection of 300 or 3,000 LPs costs the same: nothing. There's no billing and no paid tier. Collecting comics as well? See the comic book collection app guide.

Free home inventory app

Know what's in every box. Find it in seconds.

Hoardo is a free app for keeping track of what's in your storage boxes: list what goes into each box, stick a QR label on it, and search all your boxes when you need something.
